Our Community
community-center

Gouverneur is a town with a rich history and deep traditions. There are eight smaller communities located within the Town of Gouverneur. These include the Village of Gouverneur and the hamlets of Elmdale, Halls Corners, Little Bow, Natural Dam, North Gouverneur, Reservoir Hill, and Staplin Corners.

The Greater Gouverneur Chamber of Commerce has promoted economic vitality and prosperity in the Gouverneur area since 1908 and continues to be an advocate for the business community. Their website has a searchable database of members. A complete list of Gouverneur businesses can be found here.

Churches in the Town of Gouverneur have been an essential part of the fabric of the community since its founding in 1805. We are very proud of our area's schools and the opportunity for higher education in the local area. The presence of the Gouverneur Hospital offers a care facility and many specializations.

There are many ways to be involved in the Gouverneur community through its many clubs and organizations. There is a Garden Club, Veteran’s organizations, and civic groups like the Lions, Rotary, Kiwanis. Gouverneur even has a long-standing Shakespeare Club. Each year, the Gouverneur and St. Lawrence County Fair is held at the Fairgrounds.

Also each year, the Gouverneur Breast Cancer Fund committee organizes a fundraising walk to benefit those individuals who have been diagnosed with breast or ovarian cancers. All funds raised go directly to those patients to help offset the cost of treatment and recovery.

We are very proud of our community, our wonderful Museum and Library, and the wide range of recreational outdoor activities available in the area.
