Youngsters 4-10 are invited to celebrate maple sugaring season at the St. Lawrence County Historical Association’s Silas Wright House on Saturday, April 14. This extra-sweet Second Saturday program will be held from 11 a.m. to noon at 3 E. Main St., Canton.
Parking is available in back, beside the main entrance to the Red Barn.
Come and meet the New York State Maple Queen and learn about the history of maple sugaring in St. Lawrence County. You can also sample some culinary creations made from maple syrup (it’s not just for breakfast).

Doors open at 10 a.m. at McKenney Middle School, State Street, Canton;
the event continues till 4 p.m. Admission is $3 per person. Lunch and
desserts will be sold. The day also features a sale of used hardcover
and paperback books, a silent auction of donated items, and the drawing
for a hand-pieced, hand-quilted “Adirondack Autumn” quilt.
Tickets for the quilt will be sold at the show until the 3:30 p.m.

evening of entertainment featuring favorite local performers, will
be on sale, along with items from the SLCHA gift shop.
Antique dealers will display a wide variety
of items, including glassware, fine china,
costume jewelry, pottery, “smalls,” old
books, large and small furniture, carnival
glass, antique textiles, primitives,
toys, collectibles, and clocks. Artisans
will have woven baskets and textiles,
beeswax candles, homemade soaps, handmade
silver jewelry, original pottery, wood-turned
lamps and bowls, quilts and wall hangings,
hand-blown glass, and potted herbs.
Helen Condon of Parishville will demonstrate
rug braiding techniques; Stephen Cressey
of Gouverneur will demonstrate glass
blowing. George Emery, owner of the antique
clock sales and service firm “Time
on My Hands,” says shoppers can
bring clocks in and he will examine the
clocks and give an estimate for the cost
of repairs.

Rosin ‘n’ Rhyme, combining the talents of renowned Adirondack storyteller Bill Smith and champion fiddler Don Woodcock, will headline the Saturday, April 28 variety show sponsored by the St. Lawrence County Historical Association.

North Country Public Radio personality Todd Moe will be the emcee. Joining Rosin ‘n’ Rhyme will be the Pointercounts, the award-winning SUNY Potsdam male vocal ensemble; Canton Goldenaires’ barbershop quartet, the Adirondack Harmony Company; the St. Lawrence University Gospel Choir; a jazz vocal ensemble from Canton High School; Northwinds ensemble; and several singers and dancers.
